THE SECURENO DIFFERENCE

Kanata isn't one flooring market — it's three. Homes in Beaverbrook and Katimavik (1970s–80s) usually need subfloor leveling before any refinish holds. Bridlewood, Kanata Lakes, and Glen Cairn (1990s–2000s) are hitting the end of their original builder-grade laminate, especially where seams meet exterior patio doors. Kanata South's newer builds often shipped with entry-level vinyl or laminate that wears fast in high-traffic paths — kitchen to garage, front hall to living room. And every era faces the same dry-winter hardwood gapping Ottawa-area homes get once forced-air heat kicks in each January.

Hardwood Floor Installation

Solid and engineered hardwood installed with the expansion gaps Ottawa's dry winters require.

Floor Refinishing

For hardwood that's still got life left — restore worn boards instead of replacing flooring that can be saved.

Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation

A durable choice for high-traffic areas and basements where moisture can be a factor.

Laminate Flooring Installation

Replacing worn, swollen, or delaminating builder-grade laminate common in 1990s and 2000s Kanata homes.

Tile Installation

A harder-wearing surface for kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, and other areas that take daily abuse.

Carpet Installation

A practical choice for stairs and bedrooms when a softer, warmer flooring material makes sense.

Subfloor Repair

Leveling and repairing the surface before new flooring goes down — especially important in older Kanata subdivisions.

Basement Flooring Installation

Moisture-tolerant flooring built for concrete-slab basements, rather than carpet that may not hold up below grade.

Not sure if it's time to replace? These are the signs we hear about most in Kanata homes.

We remove the old flooring, carpet, or damaged subfloor material and handle the disposal so you're not left dealing with the mess.

03

04

We install your chosen hardwood, laminate, vinyl, or tile according to the material's requirements and the conditions in your home.

05

Transitions & Trim

We finish the details with transitions, trim, and room-to-room changes so the entire installation looks intentional and complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to frequently asked questions below.

Why do laminate seams look worse every winter?

Seasonal movement is normal for floating floors, but seams that worsen yearly usually mean the expansion gap was too tight or moisture is getting underneath — both fixable. Send a photo and we can often tell which.

Can you match my existing hardwood?

Matching species and stain is possible but depends on your floor's age and finish — sun-faded boards are hardest to match exactly. We bring a sample before quoting.

Basement flooring before or after drywall?

After. Flooring goes in last so it doesn't get damaged during the rest of the build. Planning the whole basement? We can just handle the floor on your timeline.

How long does a main-floor job take?

Tear-out through finished install typically runs a few days for an average main floor, with subfloor issues being the main thing that adds time. You'll get a real number at quote time.

Do you handle uneven subfloors in older homes?

Yes — this comes up constantly in older Kanata neighborhoods. We check and correct subfloor level as part of the job, not as a surprise add-on later.

Common Questions

Renovation Questions Ottawa Homeowners Ask Us

How much does a home renovation cost in Ottawa?

In Ottawa, renovation cost depends on the room, the size of the space, the materials you choose and whether plumbing, electrical or structural work is involved. A single-room refresh costs far less than a full-home project. SecuReno provides a written, line-item estimate before any work starts, so you know exactly what you are paying for and can adjust the scope to fit your budget.

Do I need a permit for a renovation in Ottawa?

Generally, yes for structural changes, new plumbing, moving walls or adding a bathroom, and no for cosmetic work like flooring, painting or replacing cabinets in the same layout. The City of Ottawa issues building permits under the Ontario Building Code. We tell you upfront whether your project needs one and handle the application as part of the job.

Are you a general contractor or a specialty trade?

SecuReno works as the general contractor on your project. We plan the job, schedule the work and coordinate any licensed trades the project needs, such as an ESA-licensed electrician for wiring, so you deal with one team and one point of contact from the first quote to the final walkthrough.

How long does a renovation take?

Most bathroom renovations take two to four weeks, kitchens three to six weeks, and flooring one to three days per room. Basements and whole-home projects take longer. Material lead times, permits and surprises behind the walls are the usual reasons a schedule moves, and we flag those as early as possible so you can plan around them.

Can I stay in my home during the renovation?

Usually, yes. For a bathroom, kitchen or flooring project we seal off the work area, protect your floors and clean up daily so the rest of the house stays livable. For whole-home renovations we plan the work in phases so you always have a usable kitchen and bathroom.

What hours can construction work happen in Ottawa?

The City of Ottawa noise by-law limits construction noise to daytime hours, generally 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays with later starts on Sundays and holidays. We schedule within those hours and let your neighbours know before noisy work like demolition begins, which keeps everyone on good terms.

Do you renovate condos and apartments in Ottawa?

Yes. Condo renovations come with extra rules: building approvals, elevator bookings, working hours and noise limits set by the condo board. We have worked within those requirements before and coordinate with property management so the project stays on schedule and your neighbours stay happy.

How do I know a contractor is insured?

Ask for two documents: a certificate of liability insurance and a WSIB clearance certificate, which shows the crew is covered for workplace injuries in Ontario. A contractor who cannot show both puts you at financial risk if someone is hurt or something is damaged. We provide ours with every written quote.
